Dear participants,

In a few days our European Conference of World Women will begin. We are looking forward to seeing you soon.

So that you also everything works well, we send you some hints and the program.

Please bring along the following:

  • Slippers
  • Sleeping bag and sheets or bed linen
  • If you only have small luggage on the plane, we have 30 x bed linen available
  • torch

For the festival in the evening, please bring each delegation a cultural contribution

Protest note

The Women’s Association Courage Vest resolutely and energetically unites the protest against the arrest and isolation of Joly Talukder and 7 other dedicated unionists on 01.04.2018 in Bangladesh.

Joly Talukder became internationally known for her commitment to improving working conditions after the conflagration and the collapse of the Rana Plaza.

When three years ago the textile factory in Bangladesh collapsed and more than 1,100 people were killed , international fashion companies pledged to improve. Rana Plaza was the largest factory accident in the country’s history.

Just three weeks later, unions and industry representatives signed a plan of action to improve fire safety and building security. But since then factory buildings have repeatedly burned or collapsed, and many people died. Construction and safety measures are still neglected.

The now imprisoned and criminalized trade unionists were engaged to implement the action plans and exposing the intolerable grievances before more people would be suffocated, scalded or burned at the workplace.

 

We demand the immediate unconditional release of Joly Talukder and all other GWTUC trade unionists imprisoned in Bangladesh!

Wir, der ver.di-Bezirksfrauenrat München (Bundesrepublik Deutschland), protestiert entschieden gegen die Inhaftierung und die Isolierhaft und fordert die unverzügliche Freilassung von Joly Talukder.

Letter of protest

We demand the immediate release from prison of Joly Talukder and her seven colleagues!

We protest loudly and publicly against the arrest of Joly Talukder, chairman of the union of seamstresses GWTUC in Bangladesh, and her seven colleagues!

We demand their immediate release!

During her visits to Essen Joly Talukder has repeatedly accused authorities of members of opposition parties and trade unionists having disappeared. We are outraged to learn that she herself has been arrested on April 1  and even put into solitary confinement.

This is torture against human rights, and it must end immediately!

Soon after Joly Talukder’s last visit to Essen in autumn 2016, some 20,000 textile workers went to strike near Dhaka for higher minimum wages to secure at least a minimum subsistence level for their families to survive. Rubber bullets and arrests were the answer. Trade union activists throughout  Bangladesh are being persecuted to put them to silence.

Wir fordern die sofortige Freilassung von Joly Talukder  und ihren sieben Kolleginnen!

Wir protestieren lautstark und öffentlich gegen die Verhaftung von Joly Talukder, Vorsitzende der Gewerkschaft der Näherinnen GWTUC in  Bangladesh und ihrer sieben Kolleginnen!

Wir fordern ihre sofortige Freilassung!

Joly Talukder hat auch bei ihren Besuchen bei uns in Essen immer wieder das Verschwinden von Mitgliedern oppositioneller Parteien und Gewerkschafter/innen angeklagt. Voller Empörung erfuhren wir, dass sie selbst am 1. April diesen Jahres festgenommen und sogar in Isolationshaft gesteckt wurde.

Das ist Folter, gegen jedes Menschenrecht und muss sofort beendet werden!

Solidarität rund um den Globus für Talukder!

Weltfrauen organisieren innerhalb kürzester Zeit internationale Solidarität mit Joly Talukder und sieben weiteren Gefangenen.

Mitteilung der kommunistischen Partei Bangladesh zu den Verhaftungen, was am 1. April geschah:

Dear Comrade,

This is to inform you that Jolly, the general secretary of Bangladesh Garments Workers Trade Union Centre and other seven leaders of the same organization has been arrested and sent to jail today, 1 April 2018. Few months back regarding trade union movement on some genuine demands of the workers in a particular factory the employers association instituted a false case against the leaders of BGWTUC. The so called accused leaders went to High Court for advance bail in connection with that case. However, High Court granted them bail for four months and asked them to appear before the appropriate Lower Court. It’s a normal practice that when High Court gives a bail, the Lower Court also gives bail. According to the  direction of the High Court Jolly and other leaders (so called accused) appeared before the Lower Court today. However, Lower Court refused to give them bail and sent them to jail. This is unusual. It has been done by the influence of towners association.

We shall again try to go to High Court and ask for bail. We are not sure what High Court will do this time. The process of going to High Court will take some time. In the meantime the leaders will remain in jail.
